Connie Mahoney

During her homemaking and mothering years, Connie Mahoney lived in Appalachia amid wide-spread strip-mining and toxic-dumping. The devastation to the ecosystem's beauty and well-being which she witnessed prompted her to return to graduate school, and she earned her doctorate in sociology from the University of California San Francisco at age 57. At 60, she went on a solo vision quest to reconnect with the earth and experience her own aging. At 67, she founded Earth Elders, a global network dedicated to honoring aging, elders, and the Earth.
